A local enigma has today taken to social media to befuddle his friends, family and wider network of acquaintances.

34-year-old Betoota Plains resident Eric Bertens did so a short time ago by posting his list of 10 songs for the Hottest 100 Aussie tracks of all time.

While containing some interesting choices, a distinct lack of Powderfinger has raised eyebrows around town.

“Yeah, what the fuck is doing there,” mused one of his life long mates, wondering whether an intervention is necessary.

“Like he’s got some mandatories in there like a Flume song and the Nosebleeds – but then he’s just fully blanked Powderfinger.”

“Very very odd behaviour.”

The strange incident comes as many around the nation painstakingly mull over their votes for Triple J’s Hottest 100 Australian Songs of all time.

The competition plays out amidst a back drop of Australian artists struggling to get airtime unless they can snag a few million plays on socials and hit people’s algos.

It’s hoped that the reminiscing about Australian tunes and the love for home grown music might remind people in a number of industries why local artists are so important to the nation’s cultural fabric.

It is also hoped that friends of Bertens can have a chat to the big fella about what exactly is going on.

“Yeah, I don’t care if it’s These Days, My Happiness or whatever,” began another one of his mates.

“But submitting a list of greatest Aussie songs without a Powderfinger song in there is borderline criminal.”

“It’s time for a chat.”

More to come.
