Concerns are quietly mounting among a group of friends in a Marrickville sharehouse tonight, after one member of the group began reading out trivia from the underside of a beer bottle cap just 17 minutes into pre-drinks.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:30pm, when Max Knoller (27) twisted open his second beer and immediately asked “Which Australian cricketer famously scored a century on his Test debut against England at the SCG in 1991?” — sending the entire group into the instant realisation that the night was going to be a dry one.
Witnesses say the vibe noticeably dipped following the unsolicited trivia.
“It’s not looking good,” said friend Ella while frustratingly running her hands through her hair.
While the group had originally planned to hit a warehouse party by 10pm, the early signs of bottle cap trivia sparked fears that the night may not be as fun as everyone thought.
“Everyone knows that the beer cap trivia is the absolute last resort in small talk, it has know place this early in a night” lamented Kyle Gooley (24), a friend of Max.
“It’s always a worry when someone starts treating a twist-top like a TED Talk” said Dan, another mate.
At time of writing, Max was seen quietly pocketing the next cap instead of reading it aloud.
The group is now strongly considering skipping the party altogether and just calling it a “quiet one.”
