Sports journalists at large commercial publications around the country are today spending another afternoon twiddling their thumbs.

With the Men’s A-League Grand Final sold out for a blockbuster Melbourne Derby, journalists at fine institutions like the Herald Sun and Fox Sports are doing their best to pretend it doesn’t exist.

“Yeah, we’ve actually got a big Hawks game on tonight to focus on, so really not too fussed about the wog ball stuff,” said Alistair Whitely-Hogan, a Herald Sun ‘journalist’ of 24 years.

“What we are keeping an eye on, is whether our cadet can sneak some flairs and weapons into the game to try and plant on some of these bloody soccer hooligans,” he laughed.

“Now that would be a story!”

Whitely-Hogan’s comments come after the A-League sold out it’s Grand Final earlier this week, shortly after the tickets went on sale.

The game between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City will be played at AAMI Park in front of over 30,000 fans, with fans of the game they play in more than a hand full of colonial countries enjoying a significant end to another season of growth.

With new club Auckland FC enjoying a dream run to finals and selling out home finals in minutes, a local football fan said he’s a little unsure why he can’t find any coverage anywhere.

“Man, I know people want to read their 82nd piece about the fall out from Origin 1, but geez an preview of the Grand Final wouldn’t go astray,” laughed local fan Zac Desposito.

“Fucking sold out grand final for a global code after a bumper season.”

“Oh well, I guess I’ll just wait until a single fan gets pinched with a flare.”

More to come.
