The Nationals party is reportedly in talks with The Liberals to get back together again, having come to the realisation that a split would result in them doing a lot more work for a lot less pay.

Nationals leader, David Littleproud, announced on Monday that his party will no longer be a part of the Coalition, as the two parties could not agree on ‘non-negotiable policies’such as nuclear power and regional funding.

However, after only two days of sleeping rough on the couch, the Nationals have come to the conclusion that it might be in their best interest to start negotiating with the Liberals again – if not for the future of Australia, but because being demoted from the shadow cabinet to the backbench means they’re set to lose up to $60k in wages.

This is because in addition to being a cool name for a job title, shadow ministers are entitled to 20-25 per cent extra salary on top of their base salary.

Now, after crunching some numbers and getting told off by the likes of Barnaby Joyce and John Howard, negotiations are back on the table.

Littleproud claims that Ley has ‘made an offer to reconvene her party room to discuss the four policy areas the National Party demand as part of a Coalition agreement’ and will hold off on announcing a shadow cabinet until a decision is made.

More to come.
