Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s bus has been got wedged in central Sydney this morning after becoming stuck on a bike lane median.

The incident took place on Pitt Street at approximately 8am. A Murray’s coach, widely regarded for its well-dressed drivers and spotless vehicles, became lodged while navigating the city’s network of raised and separated cycleways.

The bike lanes, built under the long reign of Lord Mayor Clover Moore, have long been criticised by conservative politicians (except for Tony Abbott who lives them) and talk back radio shock jocks with blood pressure on par with an off-the-shelf Kärcher.

Party officials travelling with Dutton confirmed that members of the media were forced at forkpoint to assist in freeing the bus. Journalists from outlets including the ABC and The Guardian were seen pushing the bus off the concrete structure.

Many of those involved in the rescue work for organisations that Dutton has previously described as “hate media” and threats to national security. According to the Opposition Leader’s past statements, a perfect world would see many of them lock up in Goulburn or spritzed in the face with nerve agent.

One senior Liberal adviser said the incident proved Moore’s bike lane strategy had always been bigger than cycling.

“She built a trap,” he said.

“This was the play all along. All roads, or bike lines in this case, lead to Rome. All the decades of roadworks, detours and loss of parking was all for this moment, to wedge the Murray’s bus this morning.”

Clover Moore, who enjoys an approval rating only bettered by the Kims of North Korea, made a short comment via the City of Sydney’s Beebo account.

“You dirty righties are too easy, have a good week.”

The bus was freed shortly after 9am. Dutton is expected to continue his campaign schedule this afternoon.

More to come.
