A local woman has today admitted that she’s still terrified of cooking chicken due to the fear of god that was put into her as a kid, it’s reported.

Shae Clapton, 32, says that despite having a chicken related dinner at least twice a week every week for the past several years, she’s still terrified of cross contamination or getting the dreaded pink bits.

So much so, that often finds herself either avoiding all pan frying together, or hacking up small bits of chicken until they reach a carcinogenic, crispy state.

Shae tells our reporter more about this generational anxiety, which she blames on her mum and nan.

“When I first moved out of home, I was so terrified of cooking chicken, I actively avoided it for a whole year”, admits Shae, “my mum had me convinced I’d die if I undercooked it.”

Even now, Shae isn’t quite sure what the rules are with uncooked chicken, and finds herself burning through several kitchen utensils in fear of cross contamination.

“Okay so if you put uncooked chicken on a chopping board and don’t wash it, and then you chop up veggies on that same board, you can get sick right?”

“But what about when you cook it in a pan? Can I chuck some veggies in once the chicken’s cooked or is there salmonella or something still floating around?”

“I should probably know these things by now but I’ll never really asked.”

More to come.
