A historic and touching moment took place last Saturday at the Betoota Service Centre & Fine Art Gallery, as father Troy decided it was time to bestow upon son Lincoln, 12, a closely-guarded family secret; the best way to smash a bag of servo ice.
“The trick is to chuck it up into the air and then push it into the concrete on its way down for optimal cube separation,” said proud father to nervous son.
“See? You really have to put your back into it. Look at that, no big clumps. Now you can fit a full two bags in the esky plus a case. Here, you have a go.”
Troy says whilst Lincoln’s technique does need some refinement, it was a solid start which showed a lot of promise.
“There were a few big clumps in there. I had to do a bit of extra smashing, but overall it was a good first attempt; he should have it right in another dozen or so weekends.”
Meanwhile, Lincoln said he was honoured to have been handed the knowledge and looked forward to passing it on to the next generation in the future.
“Yeah, I was heaps stoked; I tried to smash up bags of ice before, but without the correct technique you’re just pissing into the wind, really. Feels good to be a real man now.”
