Snuggled up in bed, local woman Amelia Hardgrave scrolls on her phone to see what her YouTube recommended has to offer.
As someone who couldn’t go five minutes without stimulation, whether it be scrolling social media or listening to music, the half hour window before bed time was a particularly perilous time for Amelia.
Had she ever spoken to a therapist about it, they might say that the constant need for external stimulation was clearly just her way of avoiding her crushing thoughts – all of which would come to head late at night, when she was lying alone in her room.
Rather than deal with what was obviously some residual trauma left from her formative years, Amelia has chosen to stick her head into the sand by listening to a graphic true crime podcast.
If not for the morbid fascination, but to remind herself that there were worse things in life than being lonely on a Saturday night – namely, at least she’s not chopped up in a barrel.
