It’s been a tough year for Sydney teacher Georgia Simpson, something she’ll always happily tell anyone about at length.
While the logistical nightmare that is teaching from home via the internet has finally come to an end, the return to the new classroom has created new challenges.
The department policy that requires all students wear a mask in the classroom has been one such issue, but the biggest new headache has actually been losing a tool from lockdown.
“I can no longer just mute Hugo,” she sighed, referencing one of her year 9 English students who gives her grief.
“He’s grown up having everything handed to him, so he doesn’t see the value of education, because he subconsciously knows he’ll just fail upwards if anything goes wrong,” sighed Simpson, who has been in a year-long duel with the young braceface.
Simpson explained that while she would like to just kick him up and send him every time he carries on and disrupts the rest of the class, it’s just not that easy.
“I can’t just send him straight to the Deputy Principal either, and his parents have complained about me picking on him, so I have to be careful.”
“The joys”
“The 6 week Christmas holidays can’t come soon enough”
“I’ll be working most of the time though”
More to come.
