An emerging Aussie artist has done the unthinkable this week – cracking the elusive Triple J airwaves and proving that the beloved youth station doesn’t just play pop hits from the States.
The track, ‘Ready to Go’ by Kango Tools, is already being hailed as the unofficial tradie anthem of the year, helping Triple J to finally achieve some airtime on tradie sites instead of ‘Foo Fighters’ radio channel, Triple M.
With its laidback vocals, crunchy guitar riffs, and ‘Shed Rock’ vibes, it’s struck a chord with both tradies and ex-private school boys who like to dress like them.
Fittingly, the song’s title also sums up exactly how most tradies feel after downing two energy drinks, a bacon and egg roll and a dart by 7 am – ready to go.
One local tradie, Jake, a chippy from Betoota Ponds, says it’s his new go to song for travelling to work in the morning, stating that it’s the first song he’s heard on the radio that made him ‘feel seen.’
“Except for the whole having my gear organised, I could work on that a bit”, he adds.
Triple J’s music director praised the track as being ‘authentically Aussie’, noting that the station had received over a hundred Unearthed uploads this week alone that sounded exactly like it.
Kango, the tool brand behind the unexpected hit, have now proven they’re not the only ‘Tool’ band that makes good music – though their fans are objectively less annoying and more likely to fix your back fence.
More to come.
