A game of Easter Sunday touch footy is heating up on the mid-north coast of NSW this afternoon as a group of campers soak up the joy of the long weekend.
Playing on a large patch of grass adjacent to a concrete toilet block at the Breakwall Holiday Park in Port Macquarie, witnesses say the game of ‘Dads vs. Kids’ touch has turned into a pretty competitive affair, with the young whipper snappers taking the lead 4-1.
Having marked out the field with an assortment of beach towels, a boogie board and half a case of XXX Gold, it’s believed an Easter diet of BBQ’d sausages and too many mid-strength beers has slowed the pace of the fathers, who continue to get beaten on the edges by their own children.
With the scoreline starting to get out of reach, one local Dad and self-appointed team captain Dave “Dimmer” Whyte has decided he better put his beer down and start to scrap back a lead.
Leaving his stubbie on the concrete path against the toilet block, Dimmer reportedly jogged back onto the makeshift field and took on the role of key playmaker.
Risking another MCL injury with a silly little goose step, Dimmer was able to put his older brother Paul (46) over in the corner with a pretty impressive flick pass that wouldn’t look out of place in a Benji Marshall highlights reel.
After trading a high five and a little jostle with his older brother, Dimmer returned back to his beer for a quick swig.
“Righto it’s 4-2 kids, next try wins!” Dimmer goaded, keen to get back to his campsite to start the BBQ before dark.
“And if us Dads win we get your choccies, let’s play…”
