The nation is today mourning the passing of an icon.

British-Australian film critic, journalist and historian David Stratton has passed away at age 85.

The film critic known by many for At the Movies and The Movies with Margaret Pomeranz, has died at a hospital near his home in the Blue Mountains.

The boy from Melksham leaves behind an incredible legacy of love for film and story telling – some 8 decades after his grandma used to take him to the movies during the war years.

Retiring before the new wave of derivative and formulaic big budget movies begun being trotted out, David has still held on to a place in many Australians hearts.

His love for film saw him watch at-least one film he hadn’t seen every single day, and lead to him amassing a watchlist of over 25,000 movies.

Amongst a life of critiquing movies, he also ran the Sydney Film Festival and lectured in film and history for decades.

An incredible life and an incredible influence on Australia’s, leaving Australians left feeling empowered to ask for more and to step outside their comfort zones.

5 Stars.

And for once David, we don’t disagree.
