Out on the street this week The Advocate asked some of our local constituents for their thoughts on women in motor vehicles.

We asked one simple question “Women drivers, good or bad?” and then just let the crazy leak out.

Jeremy [25] seemed to think that female drivers were to be avoided, we then asked Jeremy about his driving and particularly the circumstances which led to the large scrape on his rear bumper, at this Jeremy went red in the face and declared “that was there when I bought it” OK Jeremy, we’ll take you and your red P-plates word for it.

Within our second interview however a groundbreaking revelation was uncovered. Talking with Carlos a 49 year old fridge mechanic the comment was made “whenever you sell a car, always mention that it was owned by a female” the standard line being “one female owner”

Carlos could not however explain to us the logic behind this, we left him in a state of quiet contemplation. Later we passed him in the street where he was seen to be staring into the distance now wearing a scarf.

The last conversation was with James, a man wearing thongs and stubbies. We started with a different question “How come we mock female drivers and yet we want female owned cars?” To which James pushed away the microphone as if he were a high profile NRL player leaving court after their drink driving hearing.

Perhaps these men believe that it is because a car owned by a woman must be resilient to have survived such poor driving. Maybe try “Survived one female owner” in your next car ad and get back to us.

More to come.
