A woman going through her ‘revisiting the music your dad listens to’ phase has this week had some uncomfortable thoughts, after discovering that not only were a lot of them awful people, but are also really into teenage girls.
Having already known that some of the usual suspects were bad eggs, Heather Lawson [26] was horrified to discover that not only was this behaviour deemed acceptable back then, but many of the musicians were pretty damn brazen about their sexual conquests.
“I mean, he’s not in the 70s, but I knew about the whole Elvis having sleepovers with teenage girls thing”, explains Heather, “he did meet Priscilla when she was fourteen years old, after all.”
“But fuck, it seems to be everyone doesn’t it?”
“Steven Tyler from Aerosmith adopted a 16-year-old girl, impregnated her, then forced her to have an abortion.”
“And then went on to become a judge American Idol?”
“The Rolling Stones were about it, if you’ve ever heard ‘Stray Cat Blues’. Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin dated a 14 year old groupie.”
“…The same groupie that lost her virginity to David Bowie.”
“Now that one really hurt.”
“Iggy Pop had a 13 year old groupie and sung about it.”
“What the fuck was going on?”
“Teenagers look pretty gross to me?”
