As the nation continues to grapple with its carbon emissions, the little island just off Australia’s mainland has today urged people to take a look at the way they do things.
The plea hasn’t come from New Zealand, but from down on the Apple Isle of Tasmania.
The people from other Southernmost state have reminded the rest of the nation, that despite all the yuppie dogs from Melbourne coming down to ruin their regions, they are still running at net negative carbon emissions.
Negative carbon emissions
That achievement is nearly unrivaled around the world, with only a handful of countries being able to post negative carbon emissions.
The incredible achievement comes for the 20th year running and is a result of the cessation of logging on the island, combined with the majority of work being done with hand tools as well as horse and cart being the main method of transportation.
Limited use of electricity is also believed to be a significant factor.
The situation down south obviously comes in stark contrast to the rest of the country, with mainland states and territories pouring smoke like a 4th hand whipper snipper.
However, with the people who get listed on the rich lists every year finally moving their interest across from the fossil fuels industry to clean technologies, it is now time for mainland Australia to clear that up.
It’s not known how popular abandoning technologies like motor vehicles, electric tools and home appliances will be, but Tasmania has urged the rest of the nation to get on board.
“It’s a simple life, but a fulfilling one,” explained one local Taswegian to one of our reporters.
“Candlelit dinners. I would have thought the Mebournians down here would have been keener on it.”
“Anyway. Our advice to you all. Slow down, take a step back, and enjoy life to the fullest.”
More to come.
