If the disgraced former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire thought the kitchen couldn’t get any hotter, he was wrong.
Today, once again, the most hated ex-boyfriend in New South Wales will step into the witness box at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) inquiry into Gladys Berejiklian.
A lengthy ICAC investigation, by the name of Operation Keppel, continues to dig into whether he used his public position to benefit his private business interests – with investigators taking a particular interest in his relationship with the former NSW premier, and whether Maguire used Berejiklian in his efforts to engage in political corruption.
Maguire is alleged to have maintained a “close personal relationship” with former premier Gladys Berejiklian from 2015 to late last year, one that was not disclosed to the public or their colleagues.
This is not the first time Maguire has been grilled in the witness box, In 2018 he admitted to ICAC that he sought payment for helping broker deals with a Chinese property developer.
In March this year ICAC recommended the public prosecutor consider laying charges against Mr Maguire for giving false and misleading evidence in that same 2018 ICAC hearing.
Corruption aside, one finding that cannot be denied throughout the last three years of investigations is that Maguire is a deadbeat, and possibly public enemy one for the females of New South Wales.
However, in an effort to get to the bottom of this ‘close personal relationship’ the NSW corruption watchdog has today chosen the unconventional approach of appointing Gladys Berejiklian’s two sisters to grill the lowlife former MP.
Sources say that Maguire is reportedly ‘terrified’ of what will unfold over the next couple hours, as Gladys’s overprotective sisters arrive at the ICAC office in Sydney’s CBD with a stride in their step.
It is believed that the first line of questioning will be related to who the fuck Daryl Maguire thinks he is, before the sisters then delve into how dare he.
