As local dad Steven King walks to the counter with some gardening shears and a box of nails, he has an unsettling feeling that he’s forgotten to do something.
It’s reported that Steven had made the trip with his son that morning as part of their ‘boys day’, which was actually just Steven’s way of having someone to run DIY errands with – all of course, with the promise of a play on the playground and a Bunnings snag at the end.
He’d usually go to Bunnings with his wife Adriana, but he’d maxed out his quota on DIY activities that weekend. This is said to have occurred as a result of him asking her to hold various things all day while she was trying to relax, with the cement level being the last straw before she’d stormed off inside and told him to get Adam to help instead.
It’s alleged Adam had leapt at the chance to hang out with his workaholic father, who was only able to bond while doing a physical activity or watching a movie with Mel Gibson in it. And though Steven preferred to keep his conversation to monosyllabic words and the occasional grunt, he’s found his son is pretty low maintenance in the talking department – which is a relief, considering he doesn’t really know what ten-year-olds are up to these days.
“Ready to go champ?’
At Adam’s enthusiastic nod, Steven steers his son towards the exit and past the potting mix, which instantly jogs his muscle memory as he gives it a playful slap, followed by a smaller one as Adam follows suit.
More to come.
