A Betoota Heights man is resting up today, after a bit of a prang at work.

Christian Reynolds (35) is currently on paid mental health leave following an incident where he dropped a pallet of barbecue sauce in his factory whilst intoxicated.

Instead of being instantly fired, the casual employee who works full time hours on a casual basis was offered a month’s paid leave to think about his actions and lay low until all of the BBQ sauce is cleaned up.

“Given the constant eroding of workers’ rights in this country, most employees would get sacked for a major fuck up at work, but here at Betoota Freight and Logistics we offer Politician Leave,” said the local HR manager.

“Which means, when you completely fail at your job, and refuse to acknowledge the blame or be held accountable you just get time off until everything blows over and you can just return like nothing happened.”

“Obviously it helps if you have a note from some specialist or whatever, but it doesn’t matter. You can just stigmatise mental health issues by taking leave when you’ve fucked up and don’t want to be held accountable.”

“You don’t need to have raised it as an issue or show that it’s been something you’ve been struggling with or even want to try and seek assistance.”

The man who dropped the pallet after a big night on the sauce before a 6am start told us he’s counting his blessings.

“I mean, like millions of other Australian’s I’m pretty close to the poverty line, so having the ability to have a bit of a safety net like these politicians is great.”

“Nice to not have to be accountable, I thought that was only for our well paid representatives.”
