The final frontier of Australian true-crime drama is about to be reached as a teledrama surrounding the Port Arthur Massacre has entered production.
From murders to rapes, frauds to tax evasion. This country loves a good true-crime drama but for some reason, a line in the sands of good taste has been crossed.
“Making a movie about what happened at Port Arthur is disgusting,” said one local man.
“He didn’t just kill old white men and women. He killed without discrimination. He murdered everything he saw. He murdered children,”
“Call me old fashioned but I don’t think we need to relive what happened on that day.”
Despite producing countless dramas, docudramas and podcasts about subjects covered in that local man’s rant, making something that explores the inner workings of Martin Bryant’s mind is beyond the pale.
“We should be making more movies about Christopher Skase. Fuck he was a legend. Sticking it to the tax office! Fuck those bastards! Or movies like Crackerjack. They should maybe make a funny movie for once. Fuck me, why does every Australian movie have to be about people fucking dying?”
“How hard is it?”
More to come.
