For a pair of French Quarter Residents, what was supposed to be a cheap weekend has turned into quite an expensive one it can be confirmed today.
This come after the two young professionals from our town’s most bohemian district were fined nearly 2,500 dollars for a major breach of National Parks regulation yesterday.
The breach occurred on a popular bushwalking trail a few clicks out of town, at around 3:30 pm yesterday when Hugo Smith and Emma Thompson decided it would be okay not to acknowledge another pair of outdoors people when passing by.
Known well to most bushwalkers who enjoy spending their weekends feeling superior to everyone else, it is mandatory statewide to greet fellow bushwalkers whenever you pass them, with a nod, smile, wave, or simple ‘hello/g’day.’
However for Smith and Thompson brushing up on that rule has come at a fair price, after a Parks Ranger was informed that they’d walked past a couple of boomers without greeting them.
Speaking to The Advocate this morning, Thompson explained that she just thought it was customary, and didn’t realise it was actually compulsory to great fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
“I know you’ve gotta wear lame as shit hiking shoes, but I didn’t think it was against the law to walk past someone without saying hello,” she said over the phone today.
“Oh well, it’s alright Hugo’s dad’s a partner at a local law firm so he’ll get someone to write a letter and get us out of the fine.”
“But we know for next time now. Did you get out yesterday? Wow, it’s so good. You really should do more bushwalking, it’s honestly incredible like……” she continued to our reporter acting as if she won’t go bushwalking again for another 12 months or so.
