A recent study released by the CSIRO has confirmed that the city of Wollongong is, in fact, responsible for the overwhelming majority of the nation’s stringlets.
The paper found that the vast majority of young men in the steel city, own and regularly rock a stringlet.
A stringlet is an item of clothing made popular in recent times by beach weight enthusiasts and features a large opening down the side revealing the wearer’s ribs and chest.
It can now be revealed that the recent trend has an epicentre an hour or so south of the state’s harbour capital, with roughly 95% of the country’s stringlets found in, or in close proximity to the ‘Gong.’
The paper’s lead researcher Arthur Nestor explained that they hadn’t quite figured out why the item of clothing was so popular down south but said that they were commonly paired with sleeve tattoos and a floppy felt hat.
“If you go down the Harp early on a Friday evening, or walk around any of the Gong’s beaches you’ll see the place is absolutely littered with em,” Nestor said.
The researcher then explained now summer is upon the Gong, residents better be prepared to be confronted by thousands of sets of ribs over the next few months.
“It’s almost becoming as iconic down here as that tribute to first world indulgence that is Chicko’s.”
“The sheer serving sizes and the weight of those Chicken Burgers is an affront to everything modern health stands for,” he laughed.
