The countdown to the Hottest Australian Song of all time is rapidly hurtling towards the Australian public this week.

With votes closed and all music eyes on the public countdown this Saturday afternoon and evening, a new favourite has emerged from the pack.

With the likes of Powderfinger, INXS, Tame, The Hoods, and The Veronicas holding a bit of a stranglehold on the top spots, a shock new track has shot to the front.

Lee Harding’s classic 2006 tune Wasabi has come from the clouds and shortened into favouritism today, currently sitting at even money on all major bookmakers.

It’s displaced the Hoods and Powderfinger, with the third place Australian Idol finisher in 2005 looking a strong change of finishing the count on top.

“Yeah, it’s certainly rocked a few people,” said a spokesperson for Triple J this afternoon.

“Obviously we can’t reveal any info about this weekend’s countdown, but it certainly has put the station on notice.”

When cheekily asked about whether Lee had been contacted for an on air interview after his song was played, the spokesperson played a straight bat.

“You know I can’t answer that.”

“Enjoy your music countdown.”
