Opposition leader Sussan Ley has used a media appearance this morning to admit that the idea of having female quotas in the Liberal Party is contentious and personally, she is still on the fence.

Speaking from outside Totally Fun, an abandoned theme park just over the boarder in Wodonga, Ley said the hardest part about introducing female quotas was the fact that in order to stay in the job of opposition leader, one is required to placate the re-elected Liberal members who feel that women need to shut up, cook dinner and raise children.

“You know, there are friends and colleagues in this place that roll their eyes when I tell them I can fly a plane,” she said.

“But, you know, we have to respect their views and the Liberal Party is a broad church. In that, we have members like Tim Wilson. And then we have members who are delighted to believe that Tim will burn in the fires of hell for being born the way he was. We do have a clear path to victory at the next election. We tried taking down the Teals with you know, more socially-conservative and intelligent women at the last election and that didn’t work,”

“So it’s not really a gender issue, is it? It’s something much deeper. At least, that’s what right faction believes. And I need to placate them. So you can see my predicament. We have good honest female representation in the Liberal Party and that’s about it. We also have people who believe in a sky man built everything we see in a week. Eat your heard out, China!”

“Quotas. Contentious they are. Can we talk about something else now?”

More to come.
