A spritely 62 year old has been forced to show his ID on the train bar as it was revealed that local man Brian Thompson (62), was the youngest person on board the Indian Pacific train tour — by a decent margin.

Brian, a recently retired accountant, thought the get away with his wife was innocent enough.

“We’ve always wanted to see the rest of the country, we thought the Indian Pacific would be a great way to see that”

What Brian didn’t account for was the fact the median age of the passengers on board is 83 years of age, making him and his wife the youngest onboard the long hall train journey.

“Jeez, I had no idea most of the people on this thing would be the same age as my now deceased mother” Brian noted while sitting in between two sleeping 90-something-year-olds while in the trains cafe area.

Shockingly, Brian and his wife were even asked to show ID at the on-board bar.

“Neither of us have been ID’d since the 80s! this is great! Brian lamented.

The long haul coach-train ride from Sydney to Perth known as the Indian-Pacific, is a trusty favourite of Australian retiree’s — it also happens to be one of the few activities in the country were being 62 years old is considered young.

While Brian initially felt flattered by the ID check, the novelty quickly wore off after being invited to three separate games of cards before lunch.

He now plans to spend the remainder of the trip at the back off the train with his wife, smoking ciggies and drinking alcohol, like any good rebellious youth would do.
