In some delightfully banal news, there may now be an actual reason why so many straight men apply their skincare with such aggressive enthusiasm – and it has nothing to do with them simply being a bit rough around the edges.
The ‘straight men applying skincare’ meme has exploded on TikTok, leaving many women baffled as to why blokes can’t just dab on moisturiser like a normal person.
But one local bloke reckons he’s cracked the code – and as Freud would say, it all goes back to their mums.
James Weiss, 28, tells our reporter he believes it’s because most men vividly remember how aggressively their mums used to slap on sunscreen when they were rowdy little kids and now, they’re simply replicating the trauma.
But instead of squirting way too much sunscreen and leaving his face completely white, James now likes to just use way too much moisturiser instead.
“I didn’t even realise it was a thing until my girlfriend made fun of me”, admits James, “she asked if I was trying to rub off a layer of my skin.”
James says he shouldn’t be made fun of at all, because at least he’s using skincare.
“I used to just dig out the old tub of family vaseline and rub that on my face when I got windburn, so this is actually quite the improvement.”
More to come.
