Rugby League supremo Phil ‘Gus’ Gould is today feeling quite pleased with himself, it can be confirmed.
The General Manager of Football for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs has today strolled into HQ fresh off the back of getting a blockbuster deal over the line.
The man famous for being one of the savviest operators in the great game of Rugby League, has orchestrated the signing of boom young five eighth Lachlan Galvin on a multi year deal.
That signing comes some 12 months after Gus planted the signing seed on national television, claiming that the young Wests Tigers gun was going to be the highest earner footballer outside of football.
The clever little bread crumb was later picked up some months later with Gus praising the talented prospect whilst claiming that the Bulldogs weren’t looking at signing him.
When Galvin set the NRL alight by talking shit about his coach and telling the team he was done with them, Gus cleverly said he was happy with the Bulldogs roster while clearly teeing up a secret catch up at an undisclosed Chinese Restaurant.
When the Eels were favourite to pounce on Galvin to replace Dylan Brown, in Gus we trust quietly shored up his relationship with the young man.
Now, a few weeks after it had all settled down, the Bulldogs dropped a Sunday morning bombshell on the league, revealing the Dogs were getting Galvin on a multi year deal, effective immediately.
Gus was unavailable for comment, simply offering a prolonged video of him smiling at the camera.
More to come.
