Annie Sparks (25) has experienced a deep, almost spiritual connection with a colleague she’s barely spoken to, simply because they both wear Dr Martens to the office.
The kinship revealed itself when Annie made a cup of coffee in the kitchen, and Jack Wallace (28) from IT came in to microwave his lunch. Annie, donning a colourful Gorman dress paired with the Dr Marten Adrian Tassel Smooth Quad Loafers, stared at Jack’s feet encased in a slightly tattered pair of 1460s and exchanged a knowing glance.
The colleagues are now spiritually connected by their shared taste in mildly rebellious corporate footwear.
“I don’t even know what team he works in, but we get each other,” Annie explained, stirring her oat milk latte.
Later that day, the pair were in the same lift and instinctively glanced down at each other’s feet with a faint smirk of mutual respect.
Annie, who initially bought her Docs to inject some edge into her office-appropriate wardrobe,
insists the shoes are a sign of something greater.
“You just know that frequents the Tin Haus, Annie smiled, referencing the abandoned warehouse in Betoota’s French Quarter where post-grunge gigs are held.
Jack declined to comment, though his slow, deliberate sip of cold brew suggested he, too, felt the connection.
Though neither party plans to formally acknowledge their newfound special connection, it is understood that a silent head tilt will once again be exchanged at Friday’s knock-off drinks.
