As the rest of the nation moves on from the Federal Election, Liberal senator James McGrath is imploring anyone who will listen to just hold their horses.

Senator McGrath says that while Peter Dutton is packing up his things in Dickson and a number of other big names in the party are reaching out to their contacts in lobbying and various cashed up industries, no one should be counting chickens just yet.

“We just need to wait until every single vote is counted,” said McGrath.

“I’m imploring everyone on the panel (who all left on Saturday night), everyone at home, and everyone in politics to just hold up until we’ve counted more votes.”

McGrath’s comments come after he spending a fair bit too long holding onto hope for his party on Saturday night.

With the likes of Sarah Ferguson and David Speers on the ABC coverage trying to go as gently as possible on the man in a middle of an existential crisis, McGrath continued to maintain that the fat lady had not sung.

He did eventually offer up an interesting plea, asking his party not to lurch farther to the right in search of votes, and to try and find the base that gave them so much success in Australian politics.

However, as of this morning, he is still not certain that the election is over, even with Albanese back in Canberra.

“I don’t know why everyone is in such a rush.”

“Let’s just take a breath.”

More to come.
