Pretty much all the experts are in agreement that 2016 would have absolutely adored that Katy Perry-led all girl space mission the other day.

“We can confirm that the Katy Perry in space stunt would have gone down a lot differently if it was 2015” said one expert.

2016, a year that has often been described as one of the last hopeful years of mankind, would have most definitely eaten up a moment that would have perfectly slotted into an “I’m with her” Hillary Clinton campaign stunt.

“Despite 2016 marking the rise of Donald Trump and the early wave of Facebook-fueled populism, it was also a year defined by a wave of corporate-friendly, upbeat, and fairly harmless cultural moments.”

This was the era of the Mannequin Challenge, Hillary Clinton’s campaign strategy, Beyoncé, and the song “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)” by Silentó.

“It was that late Obama-era when pop culture hadn’t gone full tiktok wild west and everything felt curated by marketing teams — a vibe so polished and upbeat it could have easily embraced Katy Perry’s stunt that has been met with class war vitriol in 2025” explained another expert.

“A stunt like that now just feels like late-stage capitalism trying to cosplay optimism.”
