A local woman has yet again found herself thinking about the 1982 live performance of ‘The Chain’ by Fleetwood Mac, which she admits she revisits ‘at least once a year.’
Despite not being the typical age bracket for a Fleetwood Mac fan, Gwen Phillips, 28, says that Fleetwood Mac transcends all ages.
In fact, she thinks it’s probably the only thing boomers, Gen X, millennials and Gen Z can agree on.
The song ‘The Chain’ was written by Stevie Nicks about band guitarist Lindsay Buckingham, who she had a very tumultuous on again off again relationship with. Many of the band’s other songs, including ‘Silver Spring’, ‘Dream’ and ‘Go Your Own Way’ were all written by various members of the band who were dating each other.
Well, except for Mick, who was just happy drumming while absolutely blitzed out of his mind on cocaine.
Speaking to The Advocate, Gwen says that live performance of The Chain is her Roman Empire.
“Look, maybe I’m toxic, but I think the live performance of The Chain is one of the hottest things I’ve ever seen”, admits Gwen, “they fucking hate each other.”
“Imagine writing a song about how fucked up your ex is, and he has no choice but to duet it with you.”
“The rage. The unbridled passion.”
“We need bands to all do too much cocaine and root each other again.”
More to come.
