South Australians have flocked to the box office this afternoon as locals rush to secure seats to the ‘Rugby League State of Origin Stadium Spectacular’.
With the gladiatorial contest almost sold-out, the NRL has today launched one final push for tickets by announcing The Living End will be joined for the pre-game show by Blackwood’s finest, the Hilltop Hoods.
Excited to ignite Game I of the State of Origin series, NRL executives reportedly took inspiration from J Lo and Shakira’s collab performance at the 2020 Superbowl and decided to bring two titans of mid-2000’s Triple J rap and rock together.
“This is huge, footy fans haven’t seen a lineup this stacked since the 2006 Big Day Out!” said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.
“I heard them rehearsing the other day and let me just say, when the crowd hears the intro to ‘The Nosebleed Section’ with a live double bass, it’s going to take Origin to another level!”
Asked why the NRL weren’t able to replicate the monster success of the 2022 Dre. Dre Superbowl show which featured cameos from the likes of 50 Cent, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar, the NRL admitted it’s done its best to bring the best artists from the Homebake festival era together on a limited budget.
“Look we really tried, we reached out to Kisschasey, The Rogue Traders, we even asked Ben Lee to come play for Christ’s sake!” said Abdo.
“NRL fans should just be happy with what they’ve got, at least we’ve gone one better and didn’t roll out Timmy Trumpet or Sheppard for the 38th time!”
More to come.
