Apart from when he played a troubled but kind-hearted cop in Animal Kingdom, prominent Australia actor Anthony Hayes has today returned to his forte of playing a very unlikable but pivotal character in a new TV series.
Hayes has been cast as an interesting day-player who seems good on the surface, but actually turns out to be a jaded wanker who doesn’t like minorities, mostly Aboriginal people.
Not to be confused with the other big unit with a beard that played that psycho in Snowtown, it seems as if Anthony Hayes has been flat out over the last few years, playing a whole range of roles in different film and TV productions.
However, to the everyday viewer, he is mostly recognised for is appearances in primetime ABC and commercial network TV shows, where he almost always plays a racist wanker.
Hayes’ new character is mostly fuelled by jealousy – and in some circumstances, a psychopathic rage. While it is often inferred that his character is responsible for every hurdle faced by the protagonists in the program, at some point it turns out he’s not the real problem.
It is not yet known if he will appear alongside Deborah Mailman in this particular production, but it has been confirmed that there will be a scene where he gets a dressing down from a strong female character who berates him for how unhelpful he has been.
