The Victorian Premier has today apologised for acting out this morning.
Dan Andrews caused a stir when he revealed the Commonwealth Games were off.
Set to be hosted in regional Victoria in 2026, the games were announced to much fanfare last year.
The international event was set to be hosted across the cities of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and Gippsland – and was marketed as something that would provide a huge economic boost.
However, the Premier sensationally revealed that he is cancelling the Games, that people were understandably hoping would result in some new facilities and government spending.
Andrews fronted the press stating that the games were cancelled because the budget had blown out from $2.5 billion to nearly 6 or $7 billion.
While plenty are wondering how the fuck you get it 3.5-4.5 billion wrong in the space of a year, Andrews has since come out to clarify his big comments this morning.
“Sorry, I’m just going through some event cancellation withdrawals,” laughed the Premier of the Lockdown Capital of the World.
“It’s been ages since we’ve been able to just pull the plug on a large gathering of people, so I was kinda just itching to shut something down,” he laughed.
“At least I didn’t do it the night before!”
When asked whether he’d be open to reversing the decision, Andrews laughed.
“Nah, fuck it.”
“Adelaide can have it, they love picking up things that were cool in Melbourne a year ago.”
